The colourful and creative Ndebele tribe bring a richness with vibrant lifegiving colours in geometric patterns reflecting happy expectations. The ancestors are solicitous and jealous and must be revered and placated. The gods will smile on the rich colours, copper rings, geometric patterns and warmth surrounding them.
Decorated with a contemporary African theme, in bold yet vibrant earthly colors, our Ndebele suite offers warmth, solitude and elegance.
Whether the intricate and delicate bead-work, or the bold striking colors, each design and marking represents the history and ancient culture of the Ndebele.
As with all our accommodation at Makumu, the Ndebele suite offers bathroom en suite, with a large wooden deck and hammock, overlooking the non-perennial Dundee river, with it’s large indigenous trees. Adjoining this suite we have our twin accommodation which offers a bathroom en suite excluding bath with its own private wooden viewing deck. Our en suite bathroom offers a large oval bath with views stretching down the riverbed, whether bird-watching, reading a book or viewing the monkeys in the large trees, we ensure a relaxing and peaceful time.
Our designers were inspired to recreate the spirit and culture of the Ndebele. Originally owners of grass huts, their integration and mixing with their Pedi and Sotho tribal neighbours, gave rise to mud hut construction and the decoration of such in the form of finger painting utilizing earth pigment to form the vivid bright yellows and browns. Another method of early design was created by dragging fingers through wet cow dung to leave marks ranging from squiggles to zigzags.
