In the Xitsonga language, the word “Makumu” refers to an intangible explanation of an open space, an uncluttered lookout over distant horizons, or endless views. The breathtaking views and location of the lodge complement a deeply inspiring sense of space and place, leaving visitors rejuvenated with the ancient spirit of African wilderness.
The ‘Big Five’ Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is one of the largest privately owned nature reserves in South Africa, covering some 60 000 hectares and forming part of the greater Kruger National Park. Makumu Private Game Lodge is an intimate oasis in this vast wilderness, surrounded by the harshness, unpredictability and unspoiled appeal of the African bushveld. Six luxurious and beautifully appointed suites, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests, ensure an exclusive blend of absolute comfort, style and privacy.

We were looking for the real thing, this is the place. An authentic and very good taste lodge to spend some safari days in the beautiful Klaserie reserve. The food is outstanding (so is the drinks’ availability), the rooms are elegant, beautiful and comfortable. The only complain? I didn’t see the Black Mamba! Jokes aside, it’s hard to find a better experience.

Best place to be! We had a wonderful stay with our family (2 adults, 2 kids) and we felt like being part of this wonderful family lodge. Perfect hosts, good food and a warm atmosphere. It was a wonderful stay and we will definitely be coming back.

Es begann schon mit der Abholung am Flughafen Eastgate durch unseren späteren Tracker... Read More

Stop your search and book here There are not enough positive words to describe the staff and facilities at Makumu. From the initial greeting at the airport in the range rover with beers, to every game drive, family-style meal, mid-safari snack/drink stops, every detail of the stay was considered. I personally loved that the lodge only holds 12 guests, so the staff and guests all get to know each... Read More
