Makumu Private Game Lodge is the realisation of Stefan Breuer’s childhood dream. With support from his family, and a dedicated team of creative people, he created the astonishingly beautiful Makumu Private Game Lodge in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in Hoedspruit, South Africa.
Makumu, meaning “endless view” offers guests expansive views from the lodge and each uniquely designed suite. The three suites - Bushman, Ndebele and Zulu – offer a spacious retreat for guests, with hammocks on your outdoor deck, refreshing outdoor shower and private plunge pool for those summer days.
The lodge is at once welcoming and relaxing, and surrounds you with the warmth, earthy colours and rich textures of Africa. Enjoy freshly prepared meals and snacks under open skies, or sundowner drinks around the boma firepit. All brought to life by the friendly staff at Makumu.

Makumu is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and upliftment of the local communities, being actively involved with Eco Children, a non-profit organisation, initiated by the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, which focuses on hands-on environmental education and whole school development.

The reason for safari is without question, the wildlife, nature and scenery. Experience private guided game drives away from the crowds in search of the Big 5. Head off on foot with your guide and tracker to experience the smaller sightings the bush has to offer. And for the brave at heart, spend a night camping under the stars in Makumu’s treehouse for unique and exhilarating experience!
